You Should Always Trust Your Dog #PureEssentials

July 10, 2014 44 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. You won't pay a penny more, but you'll help keep It's Dog or Nothing running (websites are expensive!) and the floofs fed (they're even more expensive - as you well know) ;)

You should always trust your dog.

Seriously, believe me on this one.

Especially when you’re shopping.

Even though you’ll probably be wandering aimlessly behind a dog whose nose is pulling him in 50 different directions, you should trust him. Even though your dog will be sniffing around, picking out his favorites, and loving up on the customers, you should just trust him.

Atka led me through the store and became totally fixated on the Nature’s Recipe Pure Essentials bag. Apparently, it smells yummy so I had to see if it would pass the mom test.

After reading through the ingredients, I found that there are no animal by-products, artificial preservatives, corn, or beef in the formula. Just 7 core ingredients for a simplified diet.

Have you ever wondered if your dog could snort the kibble through their nose? Or maybe you have a smaller dog and worry that the kibble will be too large? The Pure Essentials line has a window on the bag so you can actually see the kibble size! Worry no more.

Wet food, dry food, a treat junkie? Nature’s Recipe Pure Essentials has you covered.

The absolute coolest thing about this food is that there is a window so you can actually see the healthy ingredients through the bag. There are pieces of dried Gala, Fuji, and Granny Smith apples, garden peas, cranberries, and carrots mixed in the food. The food also includes Omega-3 rich flaxseed, which has a multitude of benefits for your pup.

Pure Essentials  really has every area of food covered. Large, small, old, or young; there’s a formula for your dog. I love that there is a grain and grain free version of the large breed formula. Different dogs have different needs!

There are so many good things about this food and I surely couldn’t say no to Atka. Although, it doesn’t seem like he was going to wait for my answer anyway.

If we didn’t have to get to training class, I’m sure there would have been several more items from the Pure Essentials line in his cart.

“Umm… could I get a little help on register 1, please?”

I once brought home kibbles the size of boulders (according to my little guys) because I couldn’t see what they were. I spent a lot of time with a hammer to bring them down to size.

That’s crazy! More bags should really allow you to see through. It would avoid so many hassles.

He was sooo not into it. Atka is one of the few dogs that doesn’t like jumping up on things. It’s hard to tell in the picture, but his butt is basically on the floor. My husband would try to stand Atka up and he’d be like “nope” and slink down 😉

I think my doggies would like the idea of apples in their food. 🙂

I think so too! It’s one thing for a label to say that there is an ingredient in the food, but it’s another thing to be able to see it.

We just brought home the Pure Essentials Chicken & Sweet Potato Recipe, and Riley loves it! We mixed it with his old food first to make it easy on his stomach, and he literally picked around his old food and gobbled up all of the new stuff! He also loves these Nature’s Recipe treats we picked up – lamb recipe with carrots and apples. Have you tried any of their treats yet?

That’s awesome! We haven’t been able to try the treats yet. Our pet store is a little behind the times and takes longer to catch up with the rest of society. I’m hoping we’ll get some in store soon!

I’d like to try again and get better pictures if they’re going to reach a larger audience 😉 I couldn’t get him to stand up! I suppose he does know he isn’t allowed to jump up on things.

I really wanted to try this food, because I won a coupon for a free bag at a #blogpawschat but my Petco didn’t have this line. We got some senior Nature’s Recipe food though which I will probably open up tomorrow!

I’m sure it will be just as good! My Petco was seriously lacking in this line as well. There was probably a total of ten bags. I was just happy they had the formula I needed!

You have a really beautiful dog! He looks quite intelligent too so I can understand why you would would trust his instincts. My parents have two dogs and both tend to be fussy eaters so I will pass along this info to her.
    Thank you for sharing!

I can’t tell you how many kinds of food we went through with our first dog, Kaeto. We finally just took him to the store and let him choose himself. What a process!

Totally agree! The dog is always right 🙂 Especially when it comes to people! If my dog doesn’t like someone, I am seriously suspicious.

I love coming to see pictures of your dogs every week! They look so soft and fluffy!
