This is a story from last summer, but it’s too cute to not share. When we got Mauja, we were living on the central coast of California. I absolutely loved the weather. Shorts and flip flops on Christmas? Score! Mauja did great in the weather, but I’m sure she was happy when the Air Force gave us orders to move to Montana. A much better climate for a pyr 🙂

Where we are stationed in Montana is about 3 hours from Glacier National Park. If you’re not familiar, it is beautiful. Definitely the most beautiful place I have ever been.

There is a road called “Going to the Sun Road” that takes you the entire way through the national park. Even though dogs aren’t allowed to go into the park, they can be in the cars and the areas surrounding the parking lot. Since we couldn’t find someone to take care of Mauja that day, we decided to bring her along. Little did she know she was in for a wonderful treat!

We visited Glacier a week after the park completely opened for the season, which was in July! They had just been able to remove all of the snow from the roads. It was warm enough for us to be in shorts, but there were still feet upon feet of snow. At one of the places we stopped, there was a nice snowy area. I figured I’d let Mauja out and let her experience her first snow!

She was one happy girl! Random people even stopped to take pictures of her digging, rolling, and sliding in the snow.

She threw a royal pyr fit when it was time to get in the car again. We had an unexpected visitor and I knew Mauja would attempt to befriend him. That surely would not have been the best idea…

He came within ten feet of us!
He came within ten feet of us!

A few days later, we got a light dusting of snow at home. Mauja was LOVING it. She had the best time this past winter and I know she can’t wait for winter to come again. I, on the other hand, would like summer to stay for as long as possible!

Do your dogs like the snow?

What a great visit. We’ve only seen glaciers when visiting Canada. As for our dogs they love snow.

    That was a great video!!!
Heck yes, my dogs like winter! 3 huskies, wouldn’t have it any other way!
I’m sure they would be eternally grateful if I were to move to a place that snowed 365 days a year!

We live in southern CA, so our dogs have never seen the snow. Judging by their reaction to rain (which is incredulity) I doubt they would like it. But they are Labs, so the may react like your Pyrs.

Atka especially doesn’t like the rain either. It’s a hassle to get him to do his business when it’s raining 😉

We live in Northern California so our only snow is in the mountains. The Poodles refuse to leave the car when we go there.

We live in Florida so our dogs have never seen snow. I have often wondered how they would react. My sister is in the service and stationed in North Dakota. We talk of visiting her and brining the dogs.
We lived in Denver for a year a long time ago and on vacation visited this park in the summer. It is beautiful. We thought it was really cool to take pictures in summer cloths with snow on the ground.
Great post and LOVED the video 🙂

You should take them! Sometimes the one that likes the snow is the one you least expect it from 🙂

Love love love it. Our dogs had their first snow a few years ago and Rodrigo loved it, but Sydney wanted to watch from inside at first. But when she saw Rodrigo having fun, she joined us and she’s been a snow bunny ever since.

It’s so fun to see older dogs act like a puppy in the snow 🙂

Ooo that is gorgeous scenery! Since we live in Texas, it snow once every 5 years or so. It was SUPPOSED to snow at least 5 times this winter but that never happened, silly weather people.

My dogs like the snow to a point- their paws get cold after awhile and then they’re over it. We use pawz booties to help them be more comfortable in the temp extremes-works well!

She is gorgeous playing in the snow!

We used to have to get him sedated for sanitary trims, but a few months ago we were able to switch to Clonidine and do them ourselves. We’ve been gradually reducing the dosage, and today, he had his first trim with ZERO drugs and ZERO growling 🙌🙌
