2016 Great Pyrenees Holiday Gift Guide

December 19, 2016 5 Comments

Struggling with what to get your Great Pyrenees for Christmas? Here are 10 fluffy favorites!

2016 Great Pyrenees Holiday Gift Guide

Struggling with what to get your Great Pyrenees for Christmas this year? Maybe you just need a few stocking stuffers to round out the gifts. If you’re looking for ideas, here are 10 of our favorites (tested and approved by Mauja and Atka!).

  1. XXL Kong. You can never have enough Kongs around the house. We stuff Kongs with wet food and give them to the fluffies before we leave for work.
  2. Jones Natural Chews Windees. If you’ve been here for awhile, you’ve more than likely heard us talk about Windees. Not going to lie, they’re pretty gross (especially as a vegetarian), but the fluffies go nuts for them.
  3. The Green Pet Shop Cooling Pad. We have two of these and absolutely love them. They don’t have to be frozen or connected to electricity – the cooling pads chill themselves. We always have at least one in the SUV for road trips
  4. Bully sticks. Another fluffy favorite. We seem to find the best deals and quality bully sticks from Best Bully Sticks. Plus, they have many other chews and treats as well!
  5. Fruitables Vanilla Snowflake Treats. Okay, I just think these are the coolest things ever. These crunchy treats are made with REAL SNOWFLAKES. Yes. You read that right. Mauja and Atka don’t care about the snowflakes, but the marketing definitely works on me 😉
  6. Reliq Lavender Shampoo. Bath time seems to be a love or hate situation. Regardless of how your fluffy feels about baths, this lavender scented shampoo will provide a relaxing experience (psst… use code “ITSDOGORNOTHING” for 30% off your Reliq order)
  7. Oster Grooming Rake. Keep the coat looking wonderful and functioning properly with a high-quality grooming rake. We’ve tested several over the years and have yet to find one we like more than this!
  8. Freedom Harness. This no-pull harness is great because it clips on the back (rather than the front like most no-pull harnesses). The material is durable and long-lasting.
  9. Bowtie. Everyone should have a special outfit for the Christmas festivities, right? These bowties from BrooklynBowtied are absolutely adorable! I’m pretty sure Atka needs one 😉
  10. Big Barker Bed. If your pyr will actually use a bed rather than sleep on the hard floor, a Big Barker bed is a great choice. While it’s a pricey bed, you can’t beat the quality of the bed itself.

What will you be getting your dog for Christmas?

A Pyrenean Christmas

December 16, 2015 6 Comments

Facebook has been full of Christmas themed photos recently, but I’ve been particularly drawn to the Great Pyrenees ones (obviously!). I decided to ask people to share their photos so I could create a blog post of Christmas pyrs. I received a TON of amazing photos – too many to put in a single post – so I created a few collages of the photos. So here it is, a Pyrenean Christmas <3 If you’d like to see the photos in full size, you can head to this Facebook album!

A quick note about the photos – The size/placement of each image is not indicative of my fondness of the photo. Making collages is HARD so I did the best I could 😉

2015 Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

December 15, 2015 1 Comment

Last week we shared the Ultimate Great Pyrenees Lover Gift Guide to get in the holiday spirit. If anyone is still looking for gifts for me (ahem, Nick), anything off that list will do 😉 Now, it wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t make a gift guide for the pups, too!

Mauja and Atka get stuffed stockings on Christmas and we always have a blast watching them tear through the wrapping paper. I’ll have to find the video of Atka on his first Christmas – talk about adorable! Even though we came up with our 4 gifts for Mauja and Atka already, I wanted to share some variety for those that might not have found something they would like on that list!

The 2015 Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

The 2015 Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

Tug-A-Mals Monkey
The Tug-A-Mals toys are Atka’s absolute favorite! The center is a giant, squeaky ball that can still be played with once the outside is shredded. He will run around the backyard squeak-squeaking away with the ball. It’s absolutely adorable. Plus if you say, “where’s your ball?”, he runs and grabs it.

Kong Classic
I know I talk about these all the time, but it’s because I truly think they’re amazing. Kongs are so versatile and great for keeping your pup busy. Put your dog’s favorite snacks inside and freeze for a long-lasting toy! Mauja and Atka like frozen wet food in their Kongs.

Mega Cow Tails
I’m not going to lie – the suckers smell. I’d suggest lighting a candle when breaking out these chews. However, they are one of our longer lasting chews and the fluffies go crazy for them.

Green Beef Tripe Niblets
These are my go-to high-value training treat. Once again, they smell, but when we’re working in highly stimulating environments, I need something that really gets their attention. These always do the trick.

Fruitables Vanilla Snowflakes
These definitely excite me much more than the pups, but I’m not ashamed to admit it. Guys, these are made with REAL SNOWFLAKES. Could there be a more awesome treat?!

Customized Blanket
Our friend made Atka an adorable blanket two years ago for Christmas. He was just a baby then and loved his blanket; he still sleeps on it every single day. This blanket is really cool because you can customize it! (Pst… use code “FLUFFY20” for 20% off your order)

Holiday Keepsake Tin
I am absolutely in love with these tins. One Dog Organic Bakery has the best mission and creates amazing, healthy products for our pups. You can choose the treat flavors you’d like in your tin to make sure it’s something your dog would like. The treats also smell AMAZING. I was tempted to sample…

Jumbo Bully Sticks
Best Bully Sticks offers a wide variety of sizes of bully sticks so you can find one that will last for your dog. Mauja and Atka are particularly fond of the 6″ Jumbo bully sticks, but I’m sure they would prefer even larger ones!

That wraps up It’s Dog or Nothing’s Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs! What’s on your dog’s list this year?

Polar Bear Day

February 27, 2015 3 Comments

Every time we’re out someone yells, “Wow, look at those polar bears!” I never knew the fluffies were taking that to heart until I was browsing the internet and came across this page…

Polar Bear Day

The fluffies were very excited and wondered why I didn’t have party hats, treats, and a special dinner for them today. After all, they are polar bears!

We all had to sit down for a long, heartfelt conversation. Feelings were hurt as the fluffies faced a little bit of an identity crisis.

I felt terrible and decided we need to have a day to celebrate Mauja and Atka. Should it be Great Pyrenees Day? Fluffy Day?

How do you think we should celebrate Mauja and Atka?

Pet Theft Awareness Day

Pet Theft Awareness Day

We all know that February 14th is Valentine’s Day, but did you know that it is also Pet Theft Awareness Day?

Pet Theft Awareness Day is a yearly ‘holiday’ that was started by the Last Chance for Animals campaign in 1988. The National Association for Pet Sitters estimates that an average of 2 million pets are stolen each year. Dedicated to February 14th, the day brings awareness to pet theft and highlights ways to prevent theft of your beloved furbaby.

Here are a few ways to protect your pet from theft:

  • Microchip your pet. It’s the number one way to make sure your pet makes it back to you.
  • Organize your pet’s information. Have all of your pet’s medical information and recent pictures in a handy file.
  • Ensure your yard is secure. We actually have a padlock on the gate in our backyard to prevent anyone from opening our gate. I’m sure the fluffies would love the adventure, but I disagree!
  • Never leave your pet unattended. Don’t leash your pup outside a store while you run inside. So many things could go wrong.

How else can we prevent a horrible incident of pet theft?

Valentine’s Day for You and Your Dog

February 10, 2015 33 Comments

Valentine's Day for You and Your Dog

Valentine’s Day, the day to spend with those you love, is right around the corner.

(Did you forget? Don’t worry, I know people. Try these cards… or maybe these!)

Of course, a popular Valentine’s Day activity is cooking a meal for your special someone. I know I’ll be cooking something special for Nick on Valentine’s Day, plus I’ll also be adding something extra tasty to the fluffies’ meal. Then I thought, wouldn’t it be better if I could cook something for my human AND my puppy loves?

Presenting…

The Adorably Delicious Heart-Shaped Bell Pepper with Egg Whites

(Just go with it…I can’t name things. I’m not a food blogger for a reason.)

As the name implies, this breakfast is adorable, delicious, healthy, and incredibly simple. Come on, does it get any better?

What You’ll Need

  • Red bell pepper
  • Egg whites (or a whole egg if you don’t care about color)
  • Nonstick spray

What You’ll Do

  1. Cut your bell pepper to resemble a heart. I just sliced through the pepper and cut out the bottom to make a ‘v’. Use a toothpick to hold the pepper together.
  2. Spray your skillet with nonstick spray (or olive oil… whatever you fancy).
  3. Place the heart shaped peppers in the pan and cook until just tender.

Bell Pepper Heart

  1. Add your egg whites to the interior of the peppers.
  2. Now this step takes a little work. Use your spatula to ensure the pepper heart stays closed and egg does seep out.
  3. Allow egg to cook until almost done, then flip to cook completely.

Ta da! Now, don’t forget to snuggle up with your furbabies and enjoy breakfast together!
