One of the most difficult decisions we have to make as pet owners is what to do with our furry children when we have to travel. Can they come with us? Should we leave them at home? Take them to a kennel? These days there are several ways to find care for your pet while you are away.

Let the Dogs Speak!
Need something to read this holiday weekend?
I finished reading a PAWSOME book this week! If you love puppies (and who doesn’t?) you will love this book. Let the Dogs Speak! Puppies in Training Tell the Story of Canine Companions for Independence® by Marianne McKiernan was a complete delight to read. I’ll be honest, I had my doubts when I started the book. For some reason, I just wasn’t completely sold on it. About 10 pages in, I couldn’t put it down.
Unfortunately, my review isn’t going to be as thorough as I had hoped. That just means you all have to read it for yourselves! If you have ever had an adolescent dog, you know how lovely they can be. My husband stopped home to grab some lunch and sent me this picture.
Keep Your Dog Safe this Fourth of July
This weekend we spent a lot of time discussing how to keep our dogs safe and out of mischief this week. I’m going to be honest. I have no idea how Independence Day is going to go for us. Mauja has only experienced fireworks one other time. Aside from a little extra panting and drooling, she did great. We wanted to make sure we would be home for her first experience just to be safe, so we decided to forgo the festivities last year. You can see how enthused she was 😉
Mauja Gets a Gentle Leader
Mauja was always our pyrfect angel of a puppy. She has a wonderful disposition and excelled through her obedience classes. She went everywhere with us and absolutely loved it. As she hit her adolescence, her enjoyment of new places slowly started to change. She began to exhibit anxiety in new situations, which led to poor manners. As with most adolescent dogs, her self-control started to become very poor. Her anxiety coupled with her lack of self control have been getting progressively worse. Flea and Tick Control Can Be Exhausting
As the warm weather approaches, many of us are becoming more concerned about flea and tick control. We’re spending more time outside and the temperature is becoming a breeding ground for fleas. Ever since Mauja and Kaeto got fleas two years ago, I have been searching for a better method to keep Mauja and Atka flea free. We had been using a big name topical treatment and it failed on us one month. I noticed Kaeto itching and found little bits of flea dirt on his fur. It took three months of baths, medication, and vacuuming several times a day to get rid of the fleas in the house. It was a disaster. [Read more…] about Flea and Tick Control Can Be Exhausting
Mauja’s First PetBox!
These different monthly subscription boxes for pets have been around for awhile. I kept sitting down to order one and couldn’t convince myself to. About a week ago, I saw a great coupon code on Pawsitively Pets. You know me, I can’t pass up a good deal. So I decided to order Mauja her first PetBox! (don’t worry, Atka will get one next month and Mauja is willing to share)
How To Get Your Dog To Stop Barking in 7 Easy Steps
If you own a Great Pyrenees, or any dog really, barking can be quite the issue. Great Pyrenees are guard dogs and will bark at anything. I mean anything. I’m pretty sure that they’ve barked at a leaf falling to the ground. Sometimes, they just like to hear themselves talk. In our house, we call it “grumpy barking”. Mauja is particularly good at this. She will lie on the floor with her eyes closed and gruff bark. She’s really protecting us, huh? [Read more…] about How To Get Your Dog To Stop Barking in 7 Easy Steps
This Year I’m Celebrating Fur-Mother’s Day
This year I’m celebrating Fur-Mother’s Day. And why shouldn’t I? I think of my pets as family; they’re my furry children with four legs. Recent studies have shown that more and more people are starting to think of their pets as family members, rather than just property. [Read more…] about This Year I’m Celebrating Fur-Mother’s Day
