10 Fall Activities to do with Your Dog

September 24, 2015 10 Comments

Need a few fun activities to do with your dog this fall? We have 10 great ideas for you!Since yesterday was the first day of fall (yep, I missed it), I thought we’d talk about some fun things to do with your furry friend this fall! I hate the cold am not the biggest fan of fall and really don’t enjoy pumpkin (not even the Pumpkin Spice Latte – maybe my girl gene is broken?), but Mauja and Atka love the cool air that accompanies the season change. So, just for them, I put on 18 layers bundle up and we head outside to enjoy it together. Here’s 10 things we’re hoping to do this fall:

  1. Find a dog-friendly pumpkin patch and pick pumpkins together.
  2. Take a trip to the orchard to pick some fresh apples (then make apple treats!).
  3. Enjoy the scenery and cool, crisp air with a hike in a new area.
  4. Make a pile of leaves to jump and play in.
  5. Get some exercise with some backyard football.
  6. Create/buy a fun costume for your dog; or maybe you and your dog could match costumes! (now taking suggestions for the fluffies’ Halloween apparel!)
  7. Throw a “Howl-oween” party.
  8. Bob for apples (or perhaps they would enjoy hot dogs more).
  9. Bake some pumpkin inspired treats.
  10. Attend a dog-friendly outdoor festival.

I’m reeeeally hoping I can find a dog-friendly pumpkin patch here in Montana. I searched endlessly last year, but was unsuccessful. We will definitely be hitting the trails for a few more hikes before the cold comes in just a few short months.

What are your fall plans with your dog?

Plant-Based Ingredients with PL360

PL360 for a Pet-Friendly Home

Big dogs, big messes – you know how it goes. I try to keep the chemicals to a minimal in this house, but let’s be honest – I’m not perfect; it’s always a work in progress! But what are the alternatives?

5 Benefits of Plant-Based Ingredients
  1. Constantly replenished by the environment so there is no danger of depletion
  2. Completely biodegradable
  3. Little impact on the greenhouse effect because production requires little energy
  4. No damage to the environment
  5. Production of plant ingredients benefits a large portion of the population

I was recently introduced to PL360, formerly known as PawGanics. We had received a package of PawGanics grooming wipes in a PetBox long ago and loved them, so I was super excited to hear they were even better now!

PL360‘s grooming wipes are durable, yet sensitive wipes to meet the needs of an on-the-go pet parent. The plant-based formula makes them ideal for cleaning paws, ears, and faces without irritation. Made from natural, cold-pressed seed oils, the wipes are antioxidant and vitamin rich to tend to your pet’s sensitive skin. The wipes are made without parabens, sulfate, phthalates, lanolin, and alcohol.

I have these on me all the time to keep my white dogs, well, white. Sometimes it isn’t easy – I noticed a nice grass stain on Atka’s head as we got ready to take pictures for this post!

Another item in the PL360 line that I was super excited to test was the odor neutralizing carpet powder. A few years ago, I tried using a carpet powder that I found in our grocery store. While I loved the results, I discovered Mauja was having an allergic reaction to it. I stopped using the powder and didn’t search for another one.

The PL360 Carpet Powder is also plant-based for a natural, allergy-free cleaning experience. I’ve been using the powder for about a week and am loving how much fresher our carpets smell. Not to mention, Mauja isn’t having a reaction to it! Yay!

We also received the Multi Surface Cleaning Wipes, the Daily Grooming Shampoo, and the All-in-One Shampoo & Conditioner. Because the Cleaning Wipes are plant-based as well, they’re safe on toys, food bowls, and even counters. Talk about multi purpose! I haven’t had a chance to try the shampoos, but boy do they smell lovely! I’m excited to try them out next bath time. Mauja and Atka are not so excited 😉

Do you want the chance to try PL360’s natural, plant-based products? You’re in luck! PL360 is giving away prize packs to 3 lucky winners. Enter below!

How to Have a Dog Friendly Super Bowl Party

The Super Bowl is right around the corner (as if you needed me to remind you). Do you have your plans made yet? What about your plans for you pet?

If you will be hosting a Super Bowl party or your dog will be attending one with you, here’s a few tips to ensure a safe celebration.

Fido No-No’s

Alcohol. Enjoy your beer (responsibly), but keep that to yourself. It only takes a few ounces of alcohol to cause ethanol poisoning in your pets.

Chicken Wings. While these are a Super Bowl staple, remember to keep them out of your dog’s reach. Aside from the high sodium content, consumption of chicken wings can cause an intestinal obstruction. No one wants to be racing to the emergency vet mid game.

Soda. Caffeinated drinks can be of serious harm to your dog. Breathing issues, heart palpitations, and muscle tremors are all possible side effects of ingesting caffeine.

Guacamole. Containing avocado, garlic, and onions, guacamole is dangerous to dogs. Another reason to keep the delicious dip to yourself!

Chocolate. Theobromine is present in chocolate and toxic to dogs.

Want a healthy snack you can enjoy with your dog? Try these sweet potato chips!

Fido Comfort

The Super Bowl can be a stressful time for many dogs. With the yelling and abrupt movements (you know what I mean, sports fans), it’s obvious why many dogs may feel insecure. Add the large amount of people and it could be a very hard evening.

Create a safe space. Does your dog like to relax anywhere specific? Set up a calm area for your dog to retreat to if he starts to feel uncomfortable. Place his bed, toys, food, and water in a quiet(er) area. A calming CD or radio station could also help to tune out some of the noise.

Put on that collar. Between guests leaving doors open and fearful dogs wanting to bolt, it’s essential your dog wears a collar with tags.

Don’t forget potty breaks. The Super Bowl is long. If your dog is stressed, he may be drinking more water than normal and need more potty breaks. Frequent breaks can also help eliminate any stress urination. Make these breaks a special time with your pup where he can feel reassured.

Consider your dog’s personality. If your dog doesn’t do well in hectic social situations, it’s probably best to have a low key evening. Leave your pup at home or in good hands if you enjoy the crazy Super Bowl parties.

Keep it tidy. Open garbage bins, half-empty plates, and smelly shoes can be irresistible to your dog. Keep trash, shoes, and other temptations out of reach.

Most importantly, don’t forget to tune into the Puppy Bowl!

Holiday Hospitality from Rover.com

This post is sponsored by Rover.com. I am being compensated to help spread the word, but It’s Dog or Nothing only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. Rover.com is not responsible for the content of this article.

In a perfect world, I’d be able to take Mauja and Atka with me wherever I go. Travel would be easy, places would be pet friendly, and I could easily care for my pups. I mean, no one can take better care of them than I can, right?

Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world and not every place is accommodating of our four-legged family members. Then I’m left with the decision of who to trust with the fluffies.

We used to have to get him sedated for sanitary trims, but a few months ago we were able to switch to Clonidine and do them ourselves. We’ve been gradually reducing the dosage, and today, he had his first trim with ZERO drugs and ZERO growling 🙌🙌
