Tomorrow is the big day! I get to pick up Balto from the vet after his neuter and bring him home with me. He’ll stay with us for a few days and then he’ll be off to the wonderful Great Pyrenees Rescue of Wisconsin.
Even though we don’t get to keep him (darn 2 animal limit in housing), my husband and I have felt like we’re getting a third dog. We got his kennel all set up so we can be sure he can rest and recover, puppy proofed, bought a collar and leash, and got some food to transition him over to the food the rescue uses.
I have been going to the shelter as much as possible to work on basic commands with Balto. He is your typical over exuberant untrained puppy. But! He is learning so quickly. I know he is going to make the pyrfect pet for someone.
I’m definitely worried about him getting neutered tomorrow since he is still so young. Also, pyrs have special needs when it comes to anesthesia so that will always be a worry. However, I do understand shelter policy and will do whatever I can to ensure Balto is okay.
Paws crossed that he’s able to make a quick recovery so he’s prepared for our 18 hour road trip to Wisconsin! Many, MANY pictures to come!
We hope all goes well.
How exciting – hope all goes well! And thanks for all of the work and effort you are doing to help this pup : )
Hello, so happy to meet you. Wanted to say “thank you” for all your kindness and love with Balto. Too many times we don’t say it – and I think you’re wonderful to do what you’re doing. Take care…
This process has been stressful yet exciting at the same time. I can’t imagine how those feel that deal with these situations on an every day basis. I hope to continue to make friends with more dog loving people. I love this dog loving community 🙂
Good luck, Balto!! 🙂 Drive safe!
It is a great blessing that people are devoted to getting dogs placed. Breed rescues have the advantage of knowing the breed and matching the needs of the dog to owners who can not only meet those needs, but appreciate them.
