Do you like to keep active with your dogs? Great Pyrenees aren’t typically running dogs, but we love going on long walks and hikes. Sometimes, we want to get a more vigorous workout with our dogs and they can always use it too! So what do we do?
Play soccer!
Mauja and Atka prefer playing soccer in different ways, so we alternate to keep them both running. Mauja likes playing soccer with an actual soccer ball. Atka just chases her around.
Doesn’t she look so proud that she got the ball? She always delicately carries her treasure over to a shady corner and relaxes. Atka prefers to play soccer with a smaller, yellow squeaky ball.
He’s always just as proud when he makes his catch! Although, he’s not quite as delicate. He like to squeak, squeak, squeak away! Mauja knows it’s important to take plenty of water breaks when playing.
We played soccer with the pups for about an hour (minus me taking a few photo breaks). By the end, we were all exhausted and got a great workout while having a blast. We all decided to drink some water and relax in the shade. This definitely wore the dogs out more than our typical walk and it was really good for them to get running (and us too!). As long as the dogs keep enjoying it, we will continue playing soccer with them for a good workout.
What do you do to stay healthy with your dog?

What an excellent workout. Soccer is a great way for everyone to get some exercise. Thanks for the reminder about keeping hydrated too, so important in the summer, especially with big furry guys like yours! Thanks for joining the Hop.
Thanks for hosting the hop! I will certainly be taking part in this one frequently 🙂
Bailey likes trying to dribble the ball. It is so cute to watch.
That sounds cute! They won’t try and dribble, but they will try to defend the ball!
Hi there!
We play football all the time together, Earl and I!
Its fun, you’re totally right! 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
Lots of Woofs from Earl and I at Earl’s World!
Glad you find enjoyment in it too! We tried frisbee today. Atka wasn’t quite sure, but Mauja was chasing after every throw 🙂
Your dog is so fluffy and amazing. I love the picture, and who doesn’t love soccer! – Petnetio Anu
Thanks! Soccer is the best 🙂
Mr. N does play fetch but only when he feels like it so I’m working on his retrieve right now.
Mine rarely play fetch and if they do it lasts for about 30 seconds 😉
Looks like you all had a ton of fun!!!
My huskies love playing soccer with us as well!
They refuse to fetch a ball most of the time, but when we kick around the soccer ball, they just have a ball!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
That’s exactly how mine are! Fetch is out of the question, but if we are playing with our feet they’re all in!
That sure looked like fun. But what are you going to do when it gets hotter with all that fur? Love Dolly
They are actually able to handle the heat very well. They have an undercoat that helps to keep them cool. Even when it’s 100 + degrees out, they don’t want to be inside!
What a fun time! Shiner likes playing with sticks in the yard and doing a few zoomies in the evenings.
Zoomies are a favorite here as well 🙂
That looks like fun! Our girls prefer fetch, but I think I might be able to get our puppy Luke interested in soccer.
Your dogs are beautiful!
Thank you! You’ll have to give it a try and let me know how it goes 🙂
That looks like a lot of fun. I am amazed that the ball doesn’t pop when you play soccer.
Mauja has a surprisingly gentle mouth. She never wants to chew the ball and she always carries it so delicately 🙂
Looks like they’re having lots of fun with soccer! We like to kick the ball around inside and outside! Rocco bats it around with his paws!
Diane and Rocco
That sounds so cute! Atka did that once, but I think it was an accident 😉
What great fun! It reminds me a bit of our game of VolleyDog, which is our insanity dog Mort plinging a large (very light) ball off of his face. I should see if he would keep a soccer ball on the ground… we’ll have to try this one, indeed.
That sounds like such fun!
Hi Y’all!
They definitely look ready for a nice nap in the air conditioned house. I know I would be wanting inside after that game!
Y’all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Looks like everyone had lots of fun! What a great game to play with your dogs.
I have such a soft spot for dogs with soccer balls. We’ve graduated to Jolly Balls now, but our first dog was OBSESSED with soccer balls.
Wow, that is a great idea to get everyone to be more active. My dog would LOVE this. He is a retrieving/ball-obsessed nut! He would be really tired after about 10 minutes.
Excellent blog! Do you have any suggestions for aspiring writers?
I’m hoping to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you recommend starting with a free platform like WordPress or
go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m completely overwhelmed ..
Any tips? Thanks!
