Pyr Pool Party

What’s our number one way to beat the summer heat? A pyr pool party, of course! When I say “summer heat”, I mean spring semi-warmth. This weekend was about 65 degrees and it felt like summer here in Montana! After a long and awful winter, a sunny and 60 degree weekend was exactly what we needed.

Anytime they get wet it makes them crazy.

Like, REALLY crazy.

Mauja got tuckered out much more quickly than Atka and decided to relax in the shade.

The pyr pool party lasted all afternoon. After running through the water, saving their toys from the pool, and sprinting zoomies through the yard, they were ready to sleep the night away. As the weather continues to warm, we’ll be having pyr pool parties every weekend.

How do you keep cool with your dogs in the summer?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That’s so much FUN! I love the crazy face! We have a misting system set up on the back porch for the herb beds and the chickens. The dogs love it, too!

I love seeing dogs that love water. With ours its more like the scene with the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz. You really believe they’d melt.

Haha that’s hilarious! As long as the water is still, they’re good. Going to the beach was quite a traumatic experience for Mauja 😉

You should definitely get a kiddie pool for them! We debated for awhile and we’re so glad we got one!

I’d love to get them to a lake or river to see if they would actually swim. They only water they’ve been in was wading level so I’m still not sure if they’ll swim!

With all that fur I bet it feels pretty warm to them! The pool pawty looks like fun! Great photos of them too. I don’t think my dog would do the whole pool thing, but she does like the lake.

We’re hoping to get them to the lake this summer to see what they think of it! For now, wading in the kiddie pool is enough for them 😉

We have a couple of Great Pyrennes (sp?) in our park, one is a friend named Puddles. It must get really hot with all that fur. I have a pool too like yours but I’m a lot smaller! Love Dolly

Surprisingly, they don’t get as hot as you would think. Their fur works as an insulator to keep them cool in the summer. It’s pretty amazing!

We get “they look like polar bears” from adults and “hey look it’s Santa Paws!” from kids 😉

We keep looking for a bigger pool and all we can find are inflatable ones. Their claws will shred it! If you’ve seen a bigger one, let me know! 🙂

It took us forever to find ours, and we actually just got lucky that someone moved and left it behind. Look on Craig’s List or ebay for one in your area – the one we have is called the Step 2 Big Splash pool – they’re hard to find though, so the people also want all the money for them!

We used to have to get him sedated for sanitary trims, but a few months ago we were able to switch to Clonidine and do them ourselves. We’ve been gradually reducing the dosage, and today, he had his first trim with ZERO drugs and ZERO growling 🙌🙌
