At about 4 pm last Friday, I decided that we would take a spontaneous trip to Portland after work. Work ended at 4:30.
Nick was quite surprised when I called him, but being a go-with-the-flow kind of guy, he packed up the car so we could hit the road. 10 hours later, we arrived in Portland.
What was the reason for this spontaneous trip?
Honestly, the Portland Pet Expo. Montana just doesn’t get the pet events that other areas of the US get to experience. I’ve been so jealous of all the events I haven’t been able to attend, so I was determined to get to one. I really didn’t care about the details of the event, I just wanted to be a part of it. I figured, if it’s a bust, at least we’ll get to explore Portland.
I am so glad we went.
When we went looking for breakfast on Saturday morning, I was in search of a place that we could eat outside with the dogs. I could not believe it when I found a restaurant that not only allowed dogs, but they even had a doggie menu! When we put our name on the wait list, they asked how many people and how many dogs would be dining. Even better? The food was phenomenal.
After we all ate breakfast, we headed to the pet expo. I had no idea what to expect. Mostly, I was worried how Mauja would do in such a busy environment. Sometimes her anxiety gets the best of her.
The fluffies were so incredibly well-behaved. I was so proud! They were great representations of the breed as we met with brands and other dog lovers. We couldn’t walk more than a few steps without someone wanting to pet them. They were soaking it up 😉
As we were getting ready to leave, I noticed a girl walking toward our car. Turns out it was April from Tenacious Little Terrier! This just made the trip for me. I haven’t been able to meet another blogger and the moment was finally here! We made plans to get lunch the next day.
Later, I was catching up on social media when I saw a comment from Lauren at ZoePhee. She was in Portland too! I was so excited for her to join in on the blogger lunch.
We spent the rest of the day walking through Portland with the fluffies. They were show stoppers everywhere we went. Good thing I love talking about them 🙂
On Sunday, we hit up the food trucks for our blogger lunch. 5 people, 5 dogs, and a whole lot of stares. I’m SO happy I was able to have this experience and I can’t wait to meet more people!
Unfortunately, we couldn’t hang out for long because we had to hit the road back to Montana. On our way to lunch, I had seen a cute little pet store that I just had to go into. I was BLOWN AWAY by all the brands they had in their store. We only have a Petco in our town, so places like this are a true gem. We found a whole bunch of tasty snacks from our pals over at Jones Natural Chews! I had to keep moving the fluffy snouts out of the treat jars 😉
I grabbed a few bags of treats and toys that I couldn’t wait to try out and share with everyone. Unfortunately, Nick left the bag of all our purchased goodies sitting on the ground outside our car. I’m sure someone was very happy with that find. He did the same thing with a few bottles of wine during our last trip. I need to keep a better eye on him!
After a 10 hour drive back, we were all exhausted. Sleep was of utmost importance to all of us. So thankful we had the opportunity to make the trip and meet new friends. Hopefully we can do more traveling soon and make even more friends!
LOL your poor wine and now bag o’ treats! 🙁 At least some nice passerby will get a good surprise and hopefully it’ll make their day! Looks like you guys had a great time though. I LOVE that restaurant. I wish more dog friendly ones were THAT dog friendly!
oh wow!!! Sounds like tons of fun!!!!

Wow, I’m impressed by your awesome spontaneity! Portland is famously pet friendly and I’d love to go there.
And getting to meet other bloggers is the best, isn’t it? I’ve had a few visit me at home and even more by attending BlogPaws. It’s great fun to see the people and dogs behind the blogs.
Looks like Atka and Mauja did you proud. It’s exciting to see your wonderful relationship resulting in such a great event.
We had such a great time meeting you guys!!! Atka and Mauja are so cute!! <3 Hopefully we can do it again sometime!! 😀
It was serendipitous for sure! I enjoyed meeting you and your dogs. Too bad about the treats!
Wow! Sounds like a pawsome day! I would love to meet some bloggin’ pals!
Glad the pyrs had some fun too, so cool that they had a doggie menu at the restaurant!

How fun!! Love the doggie menu at the restaurant!
From what I’ve read about Portland, it sounds super amazing for pet owners! I loved reading about your trip and running into blog friends…I can’t wait to meet everyone at BlogPaws! I’m sorry to hear about the bag of treats, though…darn it, Nick! 😉
What a great time, it definitely pays to be spontaneous (I wish I could be more that way). We don’t have anything good in our area either for expos and such, and your trip definitely sounds worth the traveling. It’s so great that the dogs did so well too.
Hanging out and finding new adventures is cool! Doing it with your dogs is pawsome. Finding other bloggers at the same place and at the same time is incredible. Sounds like you all had a blast.
