We knew we’d be in trouble when Atka hit his adolescence since his puppy months were a piece of cake. We figured it’d only be fair that we’d be in for a rough adolescent phase.
Did you know a giant breed’s adolescent period can last from 6 months of age to 3 years? They don’t all last that long, but some do!
You know your dog is hitting their adolescence when you want to pull your hair out. Atka has never been destructive or done anything “bad”. This week alone we’ve had three incidents.
1. He jumped onto the couch, put his head in my backpack, pulled out some of my clothes, and shredded them. He left the evidence all over the living room floor.
2. He took the door mat from the back door, drug it into the yard, and proceeded to chew it up.
3. He dug up the TV cable wire and chewed it in half.
Time to up the exercise and stimulation to keep this big puppy out of trouble!
What have you experienced during your dog’s adolescence?
Welcome to Monday Mischief The pet blog hop that wraps up the weekend! This Blog Hop is brought to you by Alfie’s Blog, Snoopy’s Dog Blog, and My Brown Newfies.
Thankfully nothing that bad. Still can’t leave paper unattended when we aren’t home. Shut doors to rooms that have temptations when we aren’t around to watch.
Those teen years can be tough. You have the right solution though – up the exercise and brain games!
Our other dog is about a year and a half and still going through her teen years. The stubbornness and independence of a Great Pyrenees doesn’t make adolescence very much fun. Good thing they’re cute ๐
Uh oh! Hope that stage doesn’t last too long
Good thing he’s so cute. We can more easily put up with his shenanigans ๐
Yikes! Lol… I haven’t had a young pup in quite a while now. But she did chew up several of my shoes, and pillows. Who knows what else. She still gets into plenty of mischief too.
This was his first bought of destructiveness. Mauja went through a phase for about a month where she destroyed a few things. Hopefully, Atka’s is short as well!
Those teenage times can be tough! Hopefully Atka doesn’t go through this phase long. Just take deep breaths and rememeber it will pass. My Nala, during her adolesence period, chewed my wedding dress which was sealed in the hopes that one of my daughters could wear it when they got married. Needless, to say they will be wearing new gowns on their big days!
Oh, no! Thankfully, we’ve never experienced anything that terrible. Everything has been replaceable ๐
Great job Atka – that’s a lot for just one week! ๐
I’m still in my adolescent phase and I’m 4!! Mum was told my coat won’t finish growing until I’m 5 so I’m taking that to mean I don’t have to behave like a grown up yet! Tee Hee
Have fun buddy and keep up the great work,
Your pal Snoopy ๐
Hahaha love this. I’ll pass the message along to Atka. I’m sure he’ll finally be happy that someone appreciates his work ๐
Hi there! Thanks for the great blog post! It will be very useful for one of my clients! I was hoping I could use it on my blog (with your link of course). My site is not ready yet but I’m looking for great content to fill it up and I love your post ๐
Thanks!
Lisa
As long as the content is clearly marked as mine, I’m fine with it being used on your site ๐
Iโm glad to read some of these things on different sites. I have been beginning to think something was wrong with my Sheeba. Sheโs one year old and not social at all. Skittish is a good way to put it. I already knew about barking but some days itโs what are you barking at? Nothing and everything ๐. Some of the other listed issues too. Thanks for sharing!
Hello! My GP is around 9 months old, his name is Hunter and I think we are officially in the teenager phase. It was like one morning he woke up and forgot everything he learned and became way more stubborn. I’ve worked with him a lot and upped his walks and he has gotten a bit better. Some of the more recent issues we have had are him not wanting to eat his food unless its got some kind of a topper (meat, rice, soup, etc.) which I’ve stopped doing. And the contant whining to go on walks. I take him on two – one hour walks per day but it seems like anytime I take him out to go potty he will lunge for a walk and sometimes not even pee. He’s gorgeous and we love him so much but darn he is driving me crazy!!!
