One day, I realized that I was flooding my Facebook news feed with images and info about my dogs. I thought, maybe most people don’t enjoy seeing pictures of my furry babies day after day. I just love talking about dogs! So, what was the solution? Start a dog focused blog. Stick with me as we learn and discuss all things dog.
I’ll try not to bore you…
My name is Kelsie and I’m married to a wonderful man named Nick. We currently have two Great Pyrenees dogs, Mauja and Atka. Both names are Inuit words. Mauja means soft, deep snow and Atka means guardian spirit. Pretty fitting for winter loving guard dogs. They’re both still in their puppy stages, but we’re loving every minute with them. We don’t have any human children, so our furry children are what we live for. As you can see, they’re a tad spoiled.
Mauja and Atka aren’t the first dogs we’ve owned. Our first dog was a rescue dog named Kaeto. Nick and I had just moved across the country from Pennsylvania to California for his Air Force training. I didn’t know anyone, didn’t have a job, and was super lonely. After two weeks, I had enough and decided I wanted to go looking for a dog. We went to all the local shelters, but no dog could compare to Kaeto. He was skin and bones, terrified, and didn’t even know his own name, but he was the sweetest dog. We knew getting a 1 year old lab/husky mix would be a lot of work, but he was totally worth it. We had this love for about 8 months until he suddenly passed away from a blood clot. We were shocked, devastated, and heart broken. I still cry thinking about that sweet boy’s antics.
When I still lived with my parents, they got two amazing Bernese Mountain Dogs. I was in college and old enough to help with training, vet visits, and socialization. The Bernese Mountain Dog is another amazing breed that I hope to own one day in the future.
I have always had dogs and I know things will continue to be that way. I love the company and unconditional love that a dog provides.
Other things about me: I love the healthy lifestyle; working out and healthy eating. I’m obsessed with learning everything I can about topics I’m interested in (aka DOGS!). I’m athletic and musical. I love working with children. I am currently training Akta to be a Certified Therapy Dog. One day I’d to work with military members suffering from PTSD. I can’t wait to foster when we have the right house for it. Puppy raising is also on my to-do list. I hate the winter. I love anything sweet. I love cooking. I attempt to be crafty. I have the best little family in the world 🙂
