Do you like to keep active with your dogs? Great Pyrenees aren’t typically running dogs, but we love going on long walks and hikes. Sometimes, we want to get a more vigorous workout with our dogs and they can always use it too! So what do we do?
Play soccer!
Separation anxiety can be a tricky thing with dogs. You figure they’re house broken, so you leave them in the kitchen while you’re gone. When you come back, there’s pee on the floor and the cabinets are chewed. You’re angry and so you decide next time you will kennel your dog while you’re gone. Your dog then chews through his kennel and barks the whole time you’re gone annoying the neighbors. At your wits end, you decide to leave your dog outside while you’re gone. Your dog either digs up the yard or escapes.

This was the first time Mauja met her new brother, Atka. It was about -30 degrees F out that day and the wind made it even colder. Poor little Atka couldn’t even stand up! This is a story from last summer, but it’s too cute to not share. When we got Mauja, we were living on the central coast of California. I absolutely loved the weather. Shorts and flip flops on Christmas? Score! Mauja did great in the weather, but I’m sure she was happy when the Air Force gave us orders to move to Montana. A much better climate for a pyr 🙂

These different monthly subscription boxes for pets have been around for awhile. I kept sitting down to order one and couldn’t convince myself to. About a week ago, I saw a great coupon code on Pawsitively Pets. You know me, I can’t pass up a good deal. So I decided to order Mauja her first PetBox! (don’t worry, Atka will get one next month and Mauja is willing to share)
If you own a Great Pyrenees, or any dog really, barking can be quite the issue. Great Pyrenees are guard dogs and will bark at anything. I mean anything. I’m pretty sure that they’ve barked at a leaf falling to the ground. Sometimes, they just like to hear themselves talk. In our house, we call it “grumpy barking”. Mauja is particularly good at this. We’re always on the lookout for new treats. I make my own treats for the pups, but sometimes I like the convenience of prepackaged treats. I was looking for a new grain-free treat and came across Buddy Biscuits. I was particularly drawn to their “soft & chewy” treats. What’s our number one way to beat the summer heat? A pyr pool party, of course! When I say “summer heat”, I mean spring semi-warmth. Sometimes you just need a good chew session.
Finding dog toys for Mauja and Atka is not an easy task. They love the stuffies, but they rip them apart in approximately .5 seconds. They still get use out of the stuffie carcass, but not it’s not nearly as much fun as ripping the stuffing and squeakers out. Then there’s the hard toys.
