Today, we’re giving away a copy of a book that every dog owner can benefit from: Dog Training Diaries by Tom Shelby.
My favorite thing about this book is how it’s laid out. Unlike traditional dog training books, it doesn’t just teach you how to train simple commands. It answers real questions that dog owners have.
What should I do if my dog gets into a fight?
How do I prevent my dog from escaping?
Why does my dog lick everything?
Why is my dog eating poop?
How do I calm my dog down during thunderstorms?
Tom Shelby
Tom Shelby is an expert dog trainer, specializing in search-and-rescue dogs, with over four decades of experience. Shelby was a dog handler at the Westminster Dog Show, has trained celebrity dogs, and has more than 800 training appointments a year, working to create harmony between two- and four-legged friends.
Expert Answers to Real Questions
Are you inadvertently rewarding your dog’s terrible manners when neighbors arrive? Are you misinterpreting the peeing at the door as bad behavior? In Dog Training Diaries, lifelong dog trainer Tom Shelby captures the basic guidelines of training dogs and offers advice, strategies, and personal insight to deal with the most common problematic situations dog owners face.
When it comes to dog training, everyone has different opinions of what is right or wrong, or what works vs. what doesn’t. I, like many other people, have very strong opinions about dog training. No matter what your stance, you can find value from this book.
Tom Shelby refers to himself as an “it depends” trainer. If you’ve been around here awhile, you know that I am 1000% positive reinforcement. However, I still found a lot of value from this book.
My favorite part is that the book is sprinkled with stories from his training experiences. They really help you understand him
